Jesus's mythical birth

Jesus's mythical birth

These are the words of Bishop Spong, a well-known and widely respected authority on Christianity who appears on the mainstream media yet is here basically saying the same things I am, except that I go on to apply the same analysis and make the same general conclusions concerning many other aspects of the gospel story, particularly, of course, the supernatural motifs such as the virgin birth, miracles, transfiguration, resurrection and ascension.

New research reveals American Founding Fathers’ religious secrets

Did George Washington and Thomas Jefferson believe Jesus was a myth? New research suggests that these American Founding Fathers, as well as others, entertained what is called "mythicism," the thesis that many biblical figures, including and especially Jesus Christ, were mythical not historical figures. This research can be found in my article, "Were George Washington and Thomas Jefferson Jesus Mythicists?"

The true meaning of Christmas

The true meaning of Christmas

As can be seen from the Discovery clip below, the mainstream media and academia are finally catching up with what I've been saying for 15 years online and many others for decades and centuries before that. Too bad our educational system doesn't teach important and interesting facts like these to children, so it didn't take nearly 2,000 years to return to this vital knowledge, which was buried by Christian fanaticism.

Is Lazarus a remake of Osiris?

Is the story about the raising of Lazarus by Jesus in the New Testament Gospel of John a remake of the mythical resurrection of Osiris by Horus in the ancient Egyptian texts? Here is an image of the parts from my book 'Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection' showing a comparison between the ancient Egyptian texts and the Gospel of John.

Germans expose Islamist domination plot

Germans expose Islamist domination plot

A recent raid by German police of a Islamic fundamentalist network in three states serves to expose what many of us have known for a long time but what has been denied in the mainstream media and by many individuals classified as "liberals" and "leftwingers": There is a dangerous plot among fanatic (devout) Muslims to impose fundamentalist Islamic rule on non-Muslim countries.

Did George Washington and Thomas Jefferson Believe Jesus was a Myth?

Did the American Founding Fathers study the case for Jesus Christ being a mythical figure? There is much evidence that Washington and Jefferson, among other famous and important figures of the day, were influenced by well-known French mythographers and "Jesus mythicists," such as Dupuis and Volney.

Let's profile Muslims!

My latest blog post features an article by a Muslim woman...

Let's profile Muslims!

As an American Muslim, I’ve come to recognize, sadly, that there is one common denominator defining those who've got their eyes trained on U.S. targets: MANY of them are Muslim—like the Somali-born teenager arrested Friday night for a reported plot to detonate a car bomb at a packed Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in downtown Portland, Oregon.

When Was the First Christmas? | December 25th | Winter Solstice | Birth of the Sun

Was the first Christmas truly the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th? Or is this holiday much older than that, adopted into Christianity from pre-Christian cultures whose traditions dated back hundreds to thousands of years before the common era?

Mithra the Pagan Christ | Mithraism and Christianity | Mithras the Sun God

Mithra, the Light of the World, is an ancient sun god identified with Sol Invictus, who was born on December 25th. Mithra resembled Jesus Christ in many ways, including having a virgin birth, 12 companions and an ascension into heaven, as well as other doctrinal and ritual correspondences such as baptism and the eucharist.

Neith the Egyptian Goddess | Virgin Mother of the World

Neith never engaged in any kind of sexual union; that is, she was eternally a virgin. Yet, as the primordial Being, she was also generative. Thus, in Neith we have one of the earliest appearances of the archetype of the Virgin Mother, the Holy Parthenos, in her original, unadulterated form.

Pakistan's 'blasphemy' disgrace

I had to say something...

Pakistan's 'blasphemy' disgrace

It is simply disgraceful that in this day and age barbaric and savage 'blasphemy' laws are on the books in ANY country on this small planet with its umpteen religious faiths, sects and cults, which frequently contradict each other. Technically speaking, it seems that we could 'blaspheme' any number of sick man-made cults every time we wake up - or even while we're asleep.

The Lies of Infidelophobia

It's amazing that anyone with an ounce of integrity could possibly defend for one minute a violent, male-dominated cult that is responsible for the brutal murders of some 270 million people worldwide, including some 80 million Indians in their own lands. These slaughtered INDIANS were not WESTERNERS and have nothing whatsoever to do with Christian Crusades. They were murdered so that Muslim conquerors/jihadis could steal their land, women and other booty. These conquests were justified by the Koran, hadiths and Islamic history.

'The Christ Myth Anthology' is a collection of essays specifically about Jesus Mythicism. Although it's not exactly an update per se of my first published book, 'The Christ Conspiracy,' CMA does update the original article from which that book was written, 'The Origins of Christianity and the Quest for the Historical Jesus.' The updated parts also include chapters from my book 'Suns of God,' as found on my websites, such as in my 'Christ Conspiracy Articles' section but with additional quotes and edited citations.

Swiss police arrest Hindus over proposed Bible, Koran burning

In Switzerland, three Hindu fundamentalists tried to invoke Agni the fire god to destroy anti-human and children-abusing hate speech. In this quest, they wanted to burn Bibles and Korans, which are loaded with such hate speech, targeting non-believers, women and all manner of other ethnicities and living creatures. The Hindus' planned religious ceremony was stopped by the police, however, who therefore appear to be guilty of religious discrimination.

World water crisis to spell the end of civilization?

The president of Nigeria, interestingly named Goodluck Jonathan, has issued a warning that the country's main water source, Lake Chad, may dry up within the next few years, leaving some 20 million people waterless. Such dire predictions should be alarming to one and all, as the water situation globally is bleak, and Nigeria is just one possible front where we may see millions degenerate into water wars on a scale never before seen.

The Jesus Myth | Is Christ a Historical Person?

For your enjoyment and edification, I have created a new article from Barbara G. Walker's fabulous book "Man Made God," which I edited and published. I believe you will really enjoy this fascinating piece, so be sure to check it out!

The Jesus Myth | Is Christ a Historical Person?

Once the Jesus myth is more widely understood as a composite relic of a credulous past, we may be able to go forward toward a more satisfying set of spiritual hopes and insights, and leave behind the simplistic magics of a less enlightened people. We have "modernized" nearly every other aspect of our Western culture. Perhaps it is time to modernize its religion into a form that enlightenment may embrace without insulting its own intelligence.

Pliny, Tacitus and Suetonius: No Proof of Jesus

Pliny, Tacitus and Suetonius: No Proof of Jesus

Like those of the Jewish writer Josephus, the works of the ancient historians Pliny, Suetonius and Tacitus do NOT provide proof that Jesus Christ ever existed as a "historical" character. Regarding these "references," if they were genuine they would no more prove the existence of Jesus Christ than do writings about other gods prove THEIR existence.

Is Christ a clone of Mithra?

In my book 'The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold' appears a series of lists in a popular chapter called 'The Characters.' These lists recite characteristics in common with the Jesus figure of the following gods and godmen: Attis, Buddha, Dionysus, Hercules, Horus, Krishna, Mithra, Prometheus and Zoroaster. One of the gods most obviously related to the origins of Christianity is Mithras or Mithra, the Perso-Roman hybrid whose cultus was widespread around the Mediterranean during the same period Christianity was being formulated.

Is Jesus a Remake of Osiris? | The Lord of Egypt

Is Jesus a Remake of Osiris? | The Lord of Egypt

The dying and resurrected savior god Osiris was worshipped thousands of years before Christ. Is it Osiris's story in the New Testament? In the myth of Osiris is the great teaching god with the twelve disciples who dies and resurrects, millennia before the Christian era. The evidence abundantly points to Jesus Christ as a nearly identical, mythical remake of the highly popular Osiris, whose story was known by millions of pilgrims for thousands of years in precisely the same areas in which the Christian myth arose.

Muslim activist: Juan Williams' fear 'reasonable'

In response to the infamous Juan Williams firing by NPR, my favorite Muslim writer Dr. Zuhdi Jasser is disturbed by the Islamist-appeasing political correctness in this country, as he should be. This coddling of Muslims as if they are fragile and violence-prone imbeciles needs to stop. True "moderate" Muslims like Dr. Jasser need to be supported, while radical front organizations like CAIR need to be investigated and disbanded - why does an organization purporting to represent a mere 1-2 percent of the populace have so much power over American media? Why aren't decent American patriots like Dr. Jasser given the same kind of airtime?

Celebration of Life

An excerpt from my book The Gospel According to Acharya S - enjoy!

Celebration of Life

What is the purpose in life? Is it simply to follow rules and rote that turn people into robots and drones? It is clear that human beings, free from stifling and enslaving ideologies, can become great, exalted and divine. While it is crucial and good to engage in the breaking down of divisive and dangerous beliefs that make human beings less glorious than they truly are, it is also necessary to identify that glory, such that we may all strive to attain to it. The human experience is largely one of extremes, and we have seen how negative extremes have manifested themselves in the human species and in the natural world around them. We have attempted to destroy these detrimental divisions. Now is the time to reveal the beauty and vivacity of the butterfly that emerges when the dead and desiccated cocoon is removed.

Was Krishna Born on December 25th?

Was Krishna Born on December 25th?

In light of his traditional summer, rainy-season birth, the contention made by several writers over the past couple of centuries that Krishna was born on "December 25th" or the winter solstice appears to be a mistake, based on a misdating by older authors. Oddly enough, however, this 'error' may have revealed a mystery for the higher initiates in the Indian religion: To wit, Krishna is a mythical incarnation of the solar deity Vishnu, who is said to "sleep" and then 'rise' at the winter solstice or 'December 25th.'

How about establishing support groups within these housing projects so that people can then stay off the streets? World’s oldest observatory found?

Every so often we read exciting headlines proclaiming that the "world's oldest this or that" has been discovered by archaeologists. In 2005, for example, Chinese media declared that the "world's oldest observatory" had been found at Taosi in the Shanxi Province, dating to some 4,100 years ago. Other recently discovered sites have also been pronounced the "world's oldest astronomical observatory," including one in Goseck, Germany, that was founded almost 7,000 years ago and that likewise is astronomically aligned, causing it to be called a "sun temple" as well as the "German Stonehenge."

Women wearing Muslim veil and mini shorts

Women wearing Muslim veil and mini shorts

I initially found this video very amusing, because it appeared to be mocking Islamic misogyny. In reality, it's supposed to be a protest of the new French law banning the 'burkha,' which in this case is actually the niqab. Such behavior may have the opposite effect of what it is intended to do, however. Indeed, it may encourage the horrendously oppressed Saudi women, for example, to bare more, as they are already doing online for example.

This subject matter will transcend the issues of cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core, empirical 'life ground' attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social paradigm called a 'Resource-Based Economy.'

Ancient Egyptian mystery solved?

Ancient Egyptian mystery solved?

As Christianity possesses its sacramental wine, so too does the Egyptian religion largely focus on a sacred liquid, beer. Numerous verses in the ancient Egyptian holy writings such as the Pyramid Texts, Coffin Texts and Book of the Dead discusses the holy sacrament of beer, in the context of the deceased transitioning to the divine afterlife. For example, in the Pyramid Texts - the oldest of Egyptian religious writings, dating to c. 2350 BCE - there are over 40 references to beer...

Interesting slant on this controversial story by Jeffrey Goldberg, who reports that, at a memorial service for beheaded Jewish journalist Daniel Pearl, "Ground Zero mosque" imam Feisal Abdul Rauf declared: "I am a Jew." Goldberg notes that "any Muslim imam who stands before a Jewish congregation and says, 'I am a Jew,' is placing his life in danger." HORUS IS A SUN GOD!!!

HORUS IS A SUN GOD!!!

As is the case with many gods in other parts of the world, several Egyptian gods (and goddesses) possess solar attributes, essentially making them sun gods. These Egyptian sun gods included not only the commonly known Ra or Re, but also Osiris and Horus, among others. This fact of Horus as a sun god was confirmed five centuries before the common era by the Greek historian Herodotus (2.144, 156), when he equated Osiris with the Greek god Dionysus and Horus with the Greek sun god Apollo: "In Egyptian, Apollo is Horus, Demeter is Isis, Artemis is Bubastis…."

Many Iranians themselves would likely view the diminutive man's blustering as completely laughable, since civil rights activists have been complaining for decades now that the Iranian government is an oppressively tyrannical regime that has tortured and slaughtered thousands.

Another 'smoking gun' proving the Bible a myth?

New evidence that the biblical tale of Moses was neither historical nor written by him, as is widely believed, comes in the form of a small tablet found in northern Israel at the site of Hazor. This tablet dating to the 17th-18th centuries BCE and written in Akkadian appears to be similar to the famous Code of Hammurabi...

The Virgin-Born Son of the Sun God

Much-loved ancient tales from the Indian sacred text the Mahabharata demonstrate some important motifs found within Christianity as well. As part of this discussion of comparative religion and mythology, it has often been argued that the Indian god Krishna's mother was not a virgin but only a "chaste" maiden who had previously given birth to seven others.

Ground Zero mosque...and church, synagogue, temple, atheist center, etc.

Indignant at the planned $100-million mega-mosque near the site of "Ground Zero," where some 3,000 Americans were murdered in the attack on 9/11, a Christian minister has proposed creating a competing Christian center near the site as well. To some, this idea seems to be a good one, as it would "water down" the sting of this aggressive act on the part of the Muslims trying to impose themselves in this sore wound.

A comment is being circulated on Facebook claiming that the site has not only allowed Islam-critical pages like "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" to thrive but has also removed four major Muslim Facebook pages with a total of about 2.5 million members. In other words, this "chain email" is claiming that Facebook has taken a dramatic anti-Islam stance, and the comment is further demanding that the site restore the Islamic pages, make it illegal to criticize Islam, and remove all FB pages that are critical of Islam. In other words, it is demanding that Facebook follow Islamic or sharia law.

The ancient sun disk of Alaca Hoyuk

The ancient sun disk of Alaca Hoyuk

This object comes from the Hittite site of Alaca Hoyuk in Turkey, which dates to around 3,400 years ago. The Hittites were Indo-Europeans, the same as their neighbors of the time the Mitanni, who worshipped Indian gods. It is possible that this disk represents a sort of "trimurti" - Indian for "three forms" - referring to the divine Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. This triad might be represented by the three solar symbols with the crosses in the center, representing the sun, of course.

The Jesus Puzzle

It is a constant source of amazement to "freethinkers," rationalists and assorted (other) scholars and scientists that it is considered virtuous to blindly believe in the words of a man or a group of men concerning the matters of "faith" and "religion," when, if religion were to have any meaning at all, it would be about reality, honesty and integrity.

Dr. Robert M. Price reviews 'Suns of God' | Acharya S

The very learned Acharya S has spoken again. In a sequel to her wide-ranging The Christ Conspiracy, she has redoubled her efforts to show the solar - that is, the astro-theological - basis of all religions and mythologies, and to demonstrate that the great savior figures of the world's religions are late historicizations of the sacred sun myths. At the outset, let me make clear that I regard Acharya ("the Teacher," as she was dubbed by friends and students) as a colleague and fellow-laborer in the field of Christ-Myth scholarship.

The Greatest Story Ever Sold: The Christ Conspiracy

The Greatest Story Ever Sold: The Christ Conspiracy

Here is a radio show about my book...

In her various books, Acharya describes the New Testament as a work of mythic fiction within a historical setting. She claims that the story of Jesus Christ is a retelling of various pagan myths, representing "astrotheology," or the story of the Sun, and also incorporates the science of archaeoastronomy. She asserts the pagans understood the stories to be myths, but Christians obliterated evidence to the contrary by destroying and controlling literature when they attained control of the Roman Empire, which led to widespread illiteracy in the ancient world, ensuring the mythical nature of Christ's story was hidden.

On the cover of Earl Doherty's book, The Jesus Puzzle: Did Christianity Begin with a mythical Christ? is a blurb from a reader of Doherty's earlier online version: "You present nothing new here that your master, Satan, has not previously used to deceive the simple." In reality, neither does this zealous critic present anything new, as this sinister sentiment has been slung since Day One at those who do not blindly believe every priestly huckster who comes along. Such an acrimonious response, in fact, ranks right up there with "Your [sic] gonna burn in hell," in intelligence and efficacy in refuting scholarly challenges to ludicrous biblical claims....

Her book about the origins of Christianity called The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold has been read widely and critiqued over the past decade.

In response to the commentary about The Christ Conspiracy, Acharya/Murdock wrote Suns of God: Krishna, Buddha and Christ Unveiled and Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints of The Christ. This latter book, which analyzes the gospel story and includes the words of many important Christian scholars, has been well received by a number of experts and scholars in the field of Christian origins. Murdock has also written many articles and done interviews and radio programs addressing a wide variety of issues raised by her work and its criticism.

In 2007, the internet movie "ZEITGEIST" went viral and was viewed by many millions of people. The first part of the movie was based significantly on Acharya's work and, because of its popularity, has been heavily criticized, particularly by Christian fundamentalists. Over the years since then, Acharya/Murdock has responded many times with a series of articles, videos and a number of ebooks and books, including the massive study of the connection between the ancient Egyptian religion and Christianity entitled, Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection. This important book has been endorsed by a New Testament scholar and a renowned archaeologist. Other recent works of Acharya/Murdock's include Jesus as the Sun throughout History, The Gospel According to Acharya S and The 2010 Astrotheology Calendar.

As a "mythicist," Acharya S is not anti-religion, nor is she interested in creating atheists. Indeed, Murdock enjoys religion, not as a believer in it but as an observer of some of its great contribution to human culture, especially as concerns its simple and logical origins. These origins revolve largely around natural phenomena that are observable by human beings globally over the past many thousands of years. These observations beginning in remote antiquity have been recorded in numerous ways, including art, architecture, calendars, myths, rituals and traditions. The mythical and astrotheological origins of much religion are becoming increasingly obvious with the fascinating finds from the ancient world such as Stonehenge, the Pyramids, Newgrange and much more globally.

Unfortunately, we have lost so much of our ancient culture, and it continues to be threatened by battles over ideology and resources. Let us hope in the future that we can do a better job preserving and restoring our shared common heritage. Acharya's work is designed to prevent further cultural loss and to bring forth amazing and enriching information long buried under layers of dirt and dust, as well as banished from the mass human psyche through cultural conditioning and biases often found in mainstream religions.

Online since 1995, Acharya S and Truth Be Known have been dedicated to bringing to the public lost, hidden and buried treasure in the form of fascinating knowledge that has spurred the creation of a number of astounding cultures and civilizations such as those of ancient Egypt, Sumeria, Greece, Babylon and India. Buddhism 101 & Christian Apologists

Here's another forum post addressing an issue being bandied around the net -

Buddhism 101 & Christian Apologists

Was Krishna's Mother a Virgin?

Here's an oldie-but-goodie thread at my forum, where there much more of this material:

Was Krishna's Mother a Virgin?

Because of the ZEITGEIST movie, many questions have come up regarding this issue. I have therefore been inspired to create this post. The following constitutes a summary of the case for the Indian god Krishna to have been born of a virgin mother. Each of these points can be expounded upon at length...

The Non-Historicity of Mohammed

I've created a forum post regarding scholarship demonstrating Mohammed to be a fiction -

The Non-Historicity of Mohammed

The question is begged, of course, why Western scholars are so eager to apply serious scientific inquiry to the question of Mohammed's existence, while resisting with all their might the same logical study concerning Jesus Christ? Especially when there is in fact far more evidence for the existence of Mohammed than for Jesus?

Happy New Year!

Hi there -

Here is wishing you a great New Year! Hopefully things will just get better and better for you and yours in the coming year.

I wanted to share with you some great new reviews of my book "The Gospel According to Acharya S." It's a little rabblerousing tome you will want to have in your collection of things that make you go "hmmmm" and "aha!"

"The Gospel According to Acharya S" reflects my thoughts about what I feel are the most important concepts to hit the human mind, including and especially as concerns religion, spirituality and liberty of thought. "The Gospel" is a sort of Freethought Bible, if you will! In fact, I like to call it "The Purple Bible."

You can read about the contents here:

And here are some neat reviews I thought I'd share.

One Enlightened Woman

I have always appreciated Acharya's work ever since I read "Suns Of God." This woman is one of greatest free thinking spirits today!

This book should be the set text for Religious Education in schools today. Why? Because it makes you think! Something most people do not do - most have no idea where most out religious concepts come from, and it is high time we started looking instead of following like none thinking idiots! No wonder the world is in the riddled state it is in today!

This book is great because it is an easy read not too heavy and is great for someone who does not have too much time on their hands to pick up and read, or for just a quick reference.

Honest, Blunt, Hilarious

By Kenneth Dyer (Tri-Cities, WA)

This is another fine scholarly work from Acharya S with lots of interesting facts and research. I read three of her other books before this - they left me wondering how she felt about things, what her philosophy was, etc., and this book gave me the opportunity to feel like I got to know her better as a person.

She starts off by giving you her definition of "God," and then she moves into her opinions and views of the Bible and religion in general. Her words so resonated with me that I found the book to be hilarious. I was laughing through much of it because I agreed with everything she said. I consider this book to be a comedy, from my own perspective of course. :-)

I read this book in one day - it's a quick, easy read. So if you've read some of her books and have questions as to who she is and what her views are, then this book will answer your questions as well as provide you with more interesting facts, obscure Bible quotes, Koran quotes and more.

As you can tell, "The Gospel" not only contains profound philosophizing and fascinating facts not found in my other writings, but hopefully it also reflects my sense of humor. :)

P.S. If you have my "2010 Astrotheology Calendar," you know that today is the Nativity of the Sumerian Goddess Inanna and the Coming of the Egyptian Goddess Isis from Phoenicia! It's never too late to get this calendar, which is full of great info you can't find in one place elsewhere -
